The DFA chief said that the United States failed the Philippines which prompted the Chief Executive to decide the cut the ties that bind them two.
Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Secretary Perfecto Yasay emphasized that the United States of America failed the Philippines which prompted President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to draft a new foreign policy.
Secretary Yasay said in a statement that this is the message that President Duterte wanted to reach the Americans and the whole world to push the national interest of the Philippines and also to protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country.
According to Yasay, the Duterte administration believes that the ties between the US and the Philippines must already be cut to resolve the domestic and external threats to the security of the country.
Although the Philippines has so much to be thankful for to the US, the defensive forces of the country remain to have no capability to defend its territorial boundaries and exclusive use of maritime entitlements in the South China Sea,despite the decades long alliance of the two countries.
“Yes, there are many significant countless things that we will be forever grateful to America for. But the stark reality is that even in protecting our territorial boundaries and the exclusive use of our maritime entitlements in the South China Sea, our defensive forces remain grossly incapable in meeting the security threats that we face from potential foes, not to mention their stagnating impact on our development”, Sec. Yasay said.
