“Neri Miranda Jail,” Here’s an explanation
Neri Miranda Jail – Why is the “Wais Na Misis” now facing a syndicated estafa case and violation of the Securities Regulation Code?
The celebrity entrepreneur is currently detained at the Pasay City Jail Female Dormitory. This was confirmed by a warden on November 27, days after the rumors surfaced that she was arrested.
Finally breaking his silence, Chito Miranda, Neri’s husband, stressed that the arrest was not done in a rightful process. The band vocalist also said that his wife has done nothing wrong contrary to what is being accused against her.
Based on the article in PEP, this has something to do with Neri Miranda’s connection with the Dermacare beauty clinic. In October 2020, the celebrity entrepreneur signed a contract with Dermacare’s Chanda Atienza as the company’s endorser.
In July 2021, Neri announced through a social media post that she was establishing her own Dermacare franchise. Then, in October of the same year, Dermacare shared a post announcing that it was open for franchise partners who would pay P250,000. The poster featured Neri’s image.
Based on the Securities and Exchange Commission’s website, Dermacare promised investors that they would receive P31,500 every quarter for five years and the company would issue post-dated checks to them.
In summary, an investor who paid P250,000 will receive P630,000 after five years. This meant that they would earn P380,000 from their P250,000 investment.
However, apparently, this was not fulfilled by the company and investors started filing complaints. On September 8, 2023, the SEC released an advisory stating that Dermacare is no longer authorized to receive investment because it was not able to secure permits.
A syndicated estafa case was filed against Neri Miranda. Based on Presidential Decree No. 1689, syndicated estafa filed to a group of five people or more who worked together to get money from investors.
Before the SEC advisory was issued on September 8 last year, Neri already announced through a Facebook post on September 1, 2023, that she is no longer connected to Dermacare.
“I would like to take this opportunity to inform you all that I am no longer affiliated or associated with Dermacare. It is important for me to make this announcement to ensure transparency and avoid any misunderstandings,” the celebrity wrote in her post.
Even though she is no longer affiliated with the company, she was still involved in the case filed by the SEC.
