Participant in Cycling Race Allegedly Dies from Exhaustion

Recently, a cyclist in General Nakar, Quezon lost his life after joining an extreme mountain bike race. The incident quickly circulated online and elicited reactions from internet users.
The victim, identified as Enrico Pangan, a 49-year-old businessman from Teresa, Rizal, was one of the competitors in the intense 100-kilometer Brusko Epic Race Sandugo.
The cycling race, which took place on Sunday (August 25, 2024), challenged riders to cross difficult trails, rivers, and mountainous paths. Unfortunately, Enrico struggled with the harsh conditions.
Early in the morning, around 6:00 AM, he began experiencing severe difficulty breathing. The General Nakar MDRRMO ambulance quickly transported him to the Claro M. Recto Memorial Hospital in Infanta, hoping to save his life.
Despite the immediate medical attention, Enrico was declared dead on arrival at the hospital. According to the attending doctor, a heart attack was the cause of death, likely triggered by the physical strain of the race.
Enrico’s participation in the demanding race shows the extreme challenges faced by mountain bikers, especially in events that push the limits of endurance.
The Brusko Epic Race Sandugo is known for its tough course, which requires participants to be in peak physical condition to handle the rugged terrain and long distances.
The tragic incident reminds us of the risks involved in extreme sports and the importance of ensuring that participants are fully prepared for such events. It also emphasizes the need for immediate medical support during high-intensity competitions.
