NHCP Releases Digital Version of Jose Rizal’s Original Manuscripts

The original manuscripts of Dr. Jose Rizal’s important works including “Noli Me Tangere,” “El Filibusterismo,” and “Mi Ultimo Adios.” are now available online.

The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) has made the original manuscripts of Dr. Jose Rizal’s important works available online.

On August 9, 2024 (Friday), NHCP announced via Facebook that these manuscripts can now be freely accessed on memory.nhcp.gov.ph. This digital project is a collaboration with the National Library of the Philippines (NLP) and aims to make historic documents accessible to the public.

The NHCP noted that this launch is part of the recognition of these manuscripts as National Cultural Treasures. It is an important step in their ongoing effort to democratize access to historical documents.

A ceremonial visit to the manuscripts will be led by First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos, NLP Director Cesar Gilbert Adriano, and NHCP Chair Regalado Trota Jose, Jr. This event is part of the National Memory Project.

Earlier this year, in January, NHCP also announced the availability of a facsimile edition of the original Spanish manuscript of “Noli Me Tangere.”

With this new online access, people can explore and study Rizal’s original writings more easily than ever before. This initiative is expected to bring Rizal’s literary heritage to a wider audience and further the appreciation of his contributions to Philippine history and culture.
