VIDEO: Saltwater Crocodile Captured at Boracay Beach

Saltwater Crocodile Caught on a Beach in Boracay

CROCODILE – A saltwater crocodile was captured on a Boracay beach yesterday. It is likely that the crocodile had wandered off course, as it is not a species native to Boracay.

Crocodiles can be very dangerous in beach areas, particularly in regions where saltwater crocodiles (Crocodylus porosus) are present. Saltwater crocodiles, also known as “salties,” are known for their aggressive behavior.

They can be territorial and may attack if they feel threatened or provoked. These crocodiles are among the largest and strongest reptiles in the world. Their powerful jaws can exert significant force, making their bites potentially fatal.

These crocodiles can be found in a variety of coastal habitats, including rivers, estuaries, and even open ocean areas near beaches. They are known to travel long distances in search of food and new territories.

Crocodiles are excellent at blending into their surroundings and can remain hidden just below the water’s surface, making them difficult to spot. They are ambush predators, meaning they can strike with little warning.

Crocodile attacks are often sudden and unexpected. They typically aim to drag their prey into the water to drown it, making swimming or wading in areas known to have crocodiles particularly risky. There have been numerous recorded incidents of crocodile attacks on humans in beach areas.

Some residents and authorities captured a crocodile after it was spotted swimming at Boracay beach in Station 2, Sitio Diniwid, Barangay Balabag, Malay, Aklan, on Thursday afternoon, July 25, 2024. In a video taken by Laika Bandiola Maming, several residents can be seen crowding around the crocodile and quickly capturing it using a net.

This is the first time a crocodile has been spotted at Boracay beach.

The MDRRMO Malay and members of the Coast Guard Boracay took the crocodile to the mainland to be handed over to the care of the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO).
