On-bail Junjun Binay, Allowed To Fly Abroad

Former Mayor Junjun Binay is set to fly to see a daughter with “very uncommon disease”.

The Sandiganbayan has allowed Former Makati City Mayor Jejomar Erwin, also known as Junjun, Binay Jr. To fly to the United States for the medical consultation of his daughter.

In a motion submitted last week before the Sandiganbayan’s Third Division, Binay asked the Court to allow him to travel to the US with his six-year-old daughter to see allergologist and immunologist Dr. Ricardo Tan for a second opinion regarding his daughter’s staphylococcal scalded skin syndrome.

Staphylococcal scalded skin syndrome, (SSSS), also known as Pemphigus neonatorum or Ritter’s disease, or Localized bullous impetigo is a dermatological condition caused by Staphylococcus aureus.

Sandiganbayan’s Third Division approved Binay’s travel to Los Angeles from August 14 to 26 bt the former local chief executive is set to leave on the 15th.

“The Court, over the prosecution’s opposition, hereby resolves to grant accused permission to travel abroad to Los Angeles, California, United States of America (USA) to accompany his daughter on her appointment with immunologist Dr. Ricardo Tan,” a portion of the resolution read.

The Court also limited his itinerary to Los Angeles, California only.

He was also asked to deposit a P680,000 travel bond.

The anti-graft court said that should Binay fail to faithfully comply with the conditions set in the resolution, it would be a ground for the Court to “to order for the forfeiture of his bail and travel bond and the issuance of a warrant for his arrest.”

The Sandiganbayan has issued a hold departure order against Binay last February.

Binay, who is out on bail, is facing graft, malversation, and falsification of public documents charges over his involvement in the alleged overpriced Makati City Hall Building 2.
