Millions of Filipinos from the different regions across the nation are beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program or the DSWD 4Ps for several years now. The beneficiaries were selected indigents in every barangay.

Through the program, the government wants to “raise the average consumption rate in food expenditure of poor households” as well as to motivate parents to “invest in their children’s health and nutrition, education, and participation in community activities”.

Under the anti-poverty program, the beneficiaries are provided not only the DSWD 4Ps cash grant but as well as vaccination programs for kids who are aged 6 to 14. The government agency also conducts development workshops for families.

The DSWD has set conditions and agreements with the 4Ps beneficiaries for the continuity of the releasing of the DSWD 4Ps cash grant. The allowance was released through the basic deposit accounts current automated teller machine (ATM) cards before.

Recently, the government agency announced that the releasing of the DSWD 4Ps cash grant is being switched from ATM bank accounts to digital wallets like GCash and Pay Maya. It is in line with the current wave of “cashless transactions”.

According to social welfare assistant secretary Romel Lopez, the utilization of the e-wallets in the releasing of the DSWD 4Ps cash grant will greatly benefit the beneficiaries who are living in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDA).

Lopez pointed out that GIDA beneficiaries going to the nearest ATM may be costly and hard. By releasing the money through e-wallets, they can have it in an easier way as there are thousands of merchant partners of digital wallets across the nation.

Also, the DSWD conducted Digital Financial Literacy Program in five (5) regions across the nation such as the following:

  • Northern Mindanao (Region 10)
  • Eastern Visayas (Region 8)
  • Bicol (Region 5)
  • Western Visayas (Region 6)
  • Caraga region
