Jim Paredes’ statement over Duterte meme
Veteran singer Jim Paredes took to online social networking service, Twitter to issue a statement over his controversial meme of President-elect Rodrigo Duterte that went viral just recently.
In the photo which the 64-year-old musical icon shared on the micro-blogging site, Duterte can be seen in an altered body of Sto. Niño.

“I now reject the Son of God from Davao.. I believe in Duterteronomy as my bible,” he noted in the caption to the photo he shared. “TATAY DIGONG LOVES YOU. HE IS YOUR ONLY HOPE AND SAVIOUR,” the title of the photo noted.

The meme was then flooded with mixed reaction from the netizens with some stating it disrespects Duterte himself and most of all, the Sto. Niño which is considered to be holy by the Roman Catholics.
Other even noted the act as blasphemy to their christian faith. “if you don’t respect Pres. Duterte, you should have at least respect the image of Sto. Niño”, a netizen said in a comment.
Other netizen relate the act of the singer as “bitter”. They suggested that the singer must move on and unite for the common good of all. They noted that Digong is not considered as god by the majority who elected him but a mere voice of people in this democratic type of country.
Jim Paredes on the other hand, did not hold back in giving his opinion as he replies to the comments on his post.
In reply to to a reaction of a netizen, he wrote, ” I am waiting for your opinion after 3 months. Tignan natin”.
The veteran singer can be recalled as a member of the well known APO Hiking Society and previously reported to be in conflict with Mocha Uson, a known supporter of Duterte.
