QCPD Says 4 Persons of Interest in Criminology Student’s Demise to Face Charges

The Quezon City Police District said that four persons of interest in the death of a criminology student will face charges.

Earlier this week, the death of the alleged hazing victim named Ahldryn Bravante became one of the most discussed topics online. The hazing rites were reportedly held in an abandoned building at the corner of Sto. Domingo Avenue and Calamba Street in Quezon City on Monday (October 16).

On Wednesday (October 18, 2023), QCPD director Police Brigadier General Red Maranan said that they would file charges against four individuals believed to be involved in the death of a 25-year-old criminology student.

QCPD reported that two suspects openly admitted their involvement in the initiation rites linked to the tragic incident.

Maranan said that the culprits have also cooperated with authorities by revealing the names of ten more individuals who were part of the initiation. As a result, additional cases will be filed against those mentioned.

Umaamin sila na talagang kasama sila doon sa sinasabing initiation rites. Nakikipagtulungan sila sa atin. Nakapagbigay pa sila ng sampu pa na kasamahan nila doon sa initiation, kaya madaragdagan ang mapa-file-an natin ng kaso,” Maranan said.

During a police interview, the two suspects, who are members of the Tau Gamma Phi Fraternity, acknowledged Bravante as a neophyte who was undergoing an initiation rite alongside other frat members.

A preliminary examination of Bravante’s body revealed signs of trauma, including hematomas on both legs and burn marks from cigarettes on his chest and hands.

charges against the four suspects will be formally filed within the day, in compliance with Republic Act 11053, better known as the Anti-Hazing Act of 2018, according to QCPD spokesperson Police Lieutenant Colonel May Genio,

“Ang nag-plano o lumahok sa hazing na ito ay mahaharap sa parusang reclusion perpetua o hanggang 40 years na taong pagkakakulong at multang P3 milyon kung ang hazing ay magre-resulta sa kamatayan kagaya nga nito,” she said.
