2 Construction Workers Sustained Injuries After Being Struck by Public Jeepney While Working on Manhole Along Highway
Two construction workers sustained injuries after being struck by a passenger jeep while working on a manhole along the national highway in Lucena City.
The victims, employees of a subcontractor for an internet service provider, were positioned in a manhole on the outer lane of the highway, which was undergoing modifications to accommodate internet cables.
Tragedy struck when a passenger jeep driven by 65-year-old Dante Gliane Tan accidentally hit them.
According to the investigation of Lucena PNP, the jeep initially plowed through plastic cone safety barriers that served as warnings in the construction area before proceeding to collide with the two victims, who were seated at the edge of the manhole.
Both victims, identified as Arwin De Guzman, 38 years old, and Lorhenz Padillo, 29 years old, suffered injuries as a result of being hit and got trapped under the front part of the jeep. The jeep continued to move forward, eventually crashing into a parked van used as a service vehicle by the workers.
The bystanders rushed to the scene, helping to remove the two injured workers under the jeep. The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) quickly provided first aid before transporting them to the hospital for further medical treatment.
