Indian Couple Who Struggle to Make Ends Meet Sells 8-Month-Old Baby to Buy iPhone & Make Reels
An Indian couple, desperate for money, resorted to selling their eight-month-old baby to buy an iPhone for creating social media reels.
The incident took place in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, India. The couple reportedly used the money they gained from selling their child to purchase a phone and shoot reels in different parts of West Bengal.
Concerned villagers confronted the couple, who eventually confessed to their illegal activity. The residents promptly reported the incident to the police, leading to the baby’s rescue from the female buyer in the Khardah area.

“Her Neighbors got suspicious when they saw her flashing brand new iPhone and making reels while her 8 months old son was missing since many days. When they confronted her she told them that she sold her son to buy the phone.” according to the Tweet of NCMIndia Council For Men Affairs.
The police successfully arrested Sathi, the baby’s mother, but were unable to apprehend Jaydev, the father of the infant, as he managed to escape. However, law enforcement authorities swiftly initiated a manhunt operation to arrest Jaydev.
According to the neighbors, the couple was involved in the use of illegal drugs, which may have influenced their actions.

Child trafficking and exploitation are serious crimes, and incidents like these emphasize the importance of attentive communities in protecting vulnerable people, particularly children. The government must ensure that those responsible for such awful acts are held accountable and punished.
