NDRRMC Says Typhoon Egay Death Toll Reaches 5
TYPHOON EGAY – At least five people have died amid the onslaught of the powerful typhoon in the country, according to NDRRMC.
Over the past few days, Typhoon Egay has been battering the country with strong winds and heavy rains, causing inclement weather conditions and flooding in several areas.
Currently, Egay has maximum sustained winds of 150 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 185 kph. Its trajectory continues to be northwestward at a speed of 15 kph.
On Thursday (July 27, 2023), the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council released the latest update regarding the typhoon’s aftermath.
The typhoon’s devastating impact in the country led 442 cities/municipalities to declare class suspensions, and 343 cities/municipalities announced the cancellation of work.
Infrastructure damage has also been substantial, with 22 structures damaged, costing an estimated P1.7 million. A large number of road parts (107) and bridge sections (19) have been affected, making travel difficult in various regions.

According to the most recent report, the storm’s force has impacted 121 seaports.
The weather disturbance has affected a total of 328,356 individuals in 11 regions, while the total affected population is 89,639.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development and the local government provide P10,296,443.21 worth of assistance to the affected individuals.
The agency announced that the current death toll from Typhoon Egay is five. Among the reported deaths, four were attributed to a devastating landslide in Benguet.
Egay is expected to leave the country’s vicinity this morning or afternoon.
