The alleged abusive taxi driver made an official statement during an interview with ABS-CBN after he was caught on video threatening his own passenger. Driver Roger Catipay denied the allegations against him and already surfaced at the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board office.
Together with the driver’s operator, they appeared at the LTFRB Office on Wednesday after receiving a summon from the agency.
The driver was involved in a controversial video posted by a certain Joanna Garcia, the video went viral on Facebook when several Facebook Pages picked up the story followed by the mainstream media.
According to the alleged taxi driver he will only give the full details of the incident to his lawyer. The 37-year-old Roger Catipay and his operator Ariel Gamboa is now preparing their statement with their lawyer.
In the controversial viral video, the taxi driver was seen cursing the threatening his passenger, identified as Joanna Garcia, to leave his taxi.
According to the post made by Joanna Garcia, she and her friend board the taxi at SM North EDSA and asked to be brought to the POEA office in Mandaluyong. Garcia said Catipay asked for P300 for the ride, which Garcia refused since the driver had picked them up at the taxi stand.
The driver allegedly asked P250 fare but the passenger answered that it should be based upon the meter. Garcia then gave Catipay P200 to pay for the P150 fare but the driver refused to give change and even tried to punch her, hitting her on the legs.
