Presidential candidate Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago sided with Mayor Rodrigo Duterte in the issue of human rights violations. The popular senator also noted that her best friend is no other than the Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.
The presidential aspirant, Sen. Santiago was quoted as saying “We are best friends…. Sometimes we descend to the level of hyperbole. You exaggerate…so it becomes more effective,’ says Sen. Miriam.
According to the veteran lawmaker, Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago urged the Filipino voters to “disregard” human rights allegations against her fellow presidential bet, Mayor Rody Duterte, unless there is evidence to prove these allegations.
Sen. Santiago added further that Mayor Duterte’s admission that he killed criminals were just an “exaggerated way” of catching the public’s attention.
She was quoted as saying “Si Mayor Duterte halos magkamukha lang kami, kaya kami matalik na magkaibigan kasi sometimes we descend to the level of hyperbole. ‘Yun bang sinosobrahan mo ang sinasabi mo para mas epektibo, mas nakaka-catch ng attention ng mga nakikinig pero ‘di naman literally true,” Santiago said in a press briefing in Pasig City on Monday, December 14.
Both Mayor Duterte and Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago were regarded as non-traditional candidates in a 5-way presidential race. Mayor Duterte was also instrumental on Sen. Miriam’s run for public office and even described the senator as “brilliant” in a radio interview.
