The tough-talking Mayor of Davao City, who is known for his profanity in public vowed and made an announcement to the media that he tone down and will never use the “PI” words anymore. The Mayor promised that in order to control himself, he promised to donate P1,000 to the Caritas Davao Foundation every time he would swear.
Keeping true to his promise to tone down, he gave P2,000 to the foundation for swearing twice during a meeting with some of the most prominent members of the Davao clergy.
The 70-year-old Mayor DUterte came under fire by various news media organization in the country for cussing no less than the leader of the Roman Catholic faith, Pope Francis. Although the mayor was constantly attack by his opponents, netizens rescued him from such attack by giving their accounts on how good the Davao Mayor was.
Mayor Duterte met with Davao City Archbishop Romulo Valles after the incident and sought forgiveness for his foul remarks that reaped strong criticism particularly from the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philipines.
The presidential candidate of PDP-Laban, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte also plans to visit the Vatican soon. Mayor Duterte also revealed that even though he appears to be tough on the outside, he stressed that he has strong faith in God and that is why is remains a Roman Catholic.
