The Social Security System has been in the service of the Filipinos since 1957. Over the decades, it has continuously improved its programs, offering various SSS loans and benefits to its members.
The SSS member populace is composed of individuals coming from the different walk of life — locally-employed Filipinos in the private sector, self-employed individuals, overseas Filipino workers, voluntary members, and non-working spouses of SSS members among others.

The SSS Sickness Benefit is one of the offers of the social insurance giant and this benefit provides a daily cash allowance for qualified members who cannot work due to sickness or injury. A member may claim up to 120 days of sickness benefit in a year. However, the benefit cannot exceed 240 days for the same illness.

To qualify, a member must have paid at least three (3) months of contributions within the 12‑month period immediately before the semester of sickness or injury. For Employed Members
- Step 1 — Notify your employer by submitting:
- Medical Certificate (Med 01688) with:
- Complete diagnosis
- Recommended number of sick leave days including recovery
- Clinic address
- Contact number
- Legible license number
- Certified true copy of supporting medical documents

- Step 2 — Employer’s responsibility: Notify SSS online through the My.SSS account.
For Self‑Employed, Voluntary Members, OFWs, Non‑Working Spouses, and Separated Members
- Step 1 — Log in to your My.SSS account.
- Step 2 — Click “Submit Sickness Benefit Application” under the E‑Services tab.
- Step 3 — Read the reminders, then click “Proceed.”
- Step 4 — Enter all required information, then click “Proceed.”
- Step 5 — Upload supporting documents. Use the “i” icon to view requirements and reminders. Read the Certification portion, then click “I Certify and Submit.” Confirm by clicking “OK.”
- Step 6 — A notification will appear. Click “View” to copy your transaction details. Also check your email inbox for confirmation from SSS.
