The Social Security System (SSS) provides a wide range of benefits designed to support its members in different life situations. There are several SSS loans as well as benefit offers. One of the programs under the latter is the SSS Retirement Benefit which is the one most eagerly anticipated.

The SSS Retirement Benefit or also known as the Retirement Claim serves as a financial assistance for members who decide to stop working due to age. It offers cash support that can be received either as a monthly pension or a lump sum.
Filing for the claim of the SSS Retirement Benefit is generally done online. Meanwhile, there are certain cases that allows over-the-counter applications and you can check on them below.

Here are the cases that allows over-the-counter filing of claims provided that you meet all of the SSS Retirement Benefit requirements for application in terms of eligibility:
- When the member has dependent child/children
- When the member is incapacitated, under guardianship, or confined in an institution such as a penitentiary, correctional facility, or rehabilitation center
- When the member applies under the Portability Law or Bilateral Social Security Agreements
- When the member has outstanding balances under the Stock Investment Loan Program (SILP), Privatization Loan Program, Educational Loan Program, or Vocational Technology Loan Program, including salary/calamity loans or Salary Loan Early Renewal Program (SLERP)

To proceed with the claim, members must prepare the following SSS Retirement Benefit requirements:
- Retirement Claim Application (RCA) or RCA under Portability Law, if applicable (1 original copy)
- Member’s/Claimant’s Photo and Signature Card, if no UMID Card has been issued (1 original copy)
- Proof of disbursement account through any of the following:
- Bank account with PESONet participating banks
- Passbook
- ATM card showing claimant’s name and account number
- Validated deposit slip
- Bank Certificate/Statement issued within three (3) months prior to filing
- Electronic wallet such as Maya or GCash
- Pick-up arrangement with Remittance Transfer Companies (RTCs) or Cash Payout Outlets (CPOs)
- Bank account with PESONet participating banks
- Member’s Identification Cards/Documents (1 original copy)
For identification, the primary requirement is a UMID Card which is accepted across the different government agencies. Meanwhile, other acceptable government-issued IDs with photo, signature, and biometric data capture include:
- Social Security (SS) Card
- Philippine Identification (PhilID)
- Alien Certificate of Registration
- Driver’s License
- Firearm Registration
- License to Own and Possess Firearms
- National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Clearance
- Passport
- Permit to Carry Firearms Outside of Residence
- New Postal ID
- Seafarer’s Identification & Record Book (Seaman’s Book)
- Voter’s ID Card
The SSS also specifies additional SSS Retirement Benefit requirements for members aged 60 to below 65, depending on their employment status:
If Employed
- Certificate of separation from the last employer (or all employers if multiple) (1 photocopy); or
- SSS Form – Affidavit of Separation from Employment/Cessation of Self-employment with Undertaking
If Self-Employed
- Certificate of non-renewal of business permit/license issued by government offices or proof of ownership transfer (1 photocopy); or
- Certificate of cessation of business issued by the Barangay Official where the business or residence was located (1 photocopy); or
- SSS Form – Affidavit of Separation from Employment/Cessation of Self-employment with Undertaking
If Household Helper
- Certificate of separation from the last employer (or all employers if multiple) (1 photocopy); or
- SSS Form – Affidavit of Separation from Employment/Cessation of Self-employment with Undertaking
If OFW / Voluntary Member / Technical Retirement
- Proof of separation from employment, cessation of business, termination of contract, or certification of no earnings
For underground or surface mineworkers filing over the counter, additional documents are required:
- Certification from employer/s confirming employment as an underground/surface mineworker, including period of employment and job description (1 photocopy); or
- Affidavit of two co-employees attesting to the member’s employment details
