Criminology Student Lost His Life After Accidental Electrocution Inside Boarding House
A promising criminology student lost his life after an accidental electrocution inside his boarding house in Arakan, Cotabato.
The victim was identified as Marlon Sabido, 21, a resident of Barangay Bao in Alamada, Cotabato. He was an incoming fourth-year criminology student at Cotabato Foundation College of Science and Technology and was only a few months away from completing his studies.
The Philippine National Police reported that Sabido was reviewing lessons inside his rented boarding house in Purok Mahayahay, Barangay Doroluman, at around 4:00 p.m on Sunday (July 12, 2026), when the incident happened.
Authorities said he attempted to pick up an extension wire but did not notice that it was still connected to a power source. Investigators found that a damaged metal prong from a plug had remained lodged inside the extension cord.
When Sabido accidentally touched the exposed portion, a strong electric current passed through his body. The electric shock caused him to collapse and lose consciousness.
His fellow boarders immediately rushed to help him. Members of the Arakan Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office Rescue Team also responded and assisted in bringing him to the Arakan Super Health Center for emergency treatment.
Despite efforts to save him, Sabido was declared dead at around 5:30 p.m.
Aside from being a dedicated student, Sabido served as the student governor of the College of Criminal Justice Education. He was also known for being an active lector and commentator in the Catholic Campus Ministry.
Messages of sympathy quickly filled social media as classmates, friends, relatives, and community members remembered him as a kind-hearted young man who brought joy to those around him. Many described him as a loving son, a dependable friend, and a cheerful family member.
His family is now preparing for his wake in Alamada, where loved ones will gather to honor his life and remember the dreams he hoped to achieve.
