Tricycle Driver Reported for Scolding Two Student Passengers

A tricycle driver was reported for allegedly verbally abusing two student passengers over a misunderstanding.

On Thursday afternoon, July 9, 2026, two students sought help from the Kalibo Police Station after a misunderstanding with a tricycle driver allegedly turned into a stressful and frightening experience.

The students, identified only as Aya and Zia, said they hired a tricycle for a shared trip. According to them, Zia was supposed to be dropped off near Marian High School, while Aya would continue to Oyotong.

The victims explained their travel arrangement to the driver and agreed to pay a higher fare for the two separate drop-off points. The driver reportedly accepted the agreement without any issue.

As the tricycle approached Marian High School, the driver prepared to let Zia off. However, Zia allegedly requested to be dropped a little farther ahead instead. The students said that after Zia got off the vehicle, the driver suddenly became upset.

They claimed that the driver raised his voice and insisted that the fare they paid was still not enough, despite their agreement to pay P30 for the trip. The driver allegedly accused the students of not telling the truth and called them liars.

The incident left the two students feeling stressed and shaken. They decided to report the matter to the police rather than ignore it.

Authorities received their complaints and documented the incident. The case has since been referred to the Transport and Traffic Management Division (TTMD) for proper evaluation and appropriate action.

While disagreements about fares and travel arrangements can happen, handling such situations calmly and professionally can help prevent misunderstandings from becoming more serious. For the students involved, reporting the matter was their way of seeking assistance and ensuring that their concerns were heard by the proper authorities.
