Sara Duterte Draws Attention After Skipping Trial for Tree Planting Event
SARA DUTERTE – Vice President Sara Duterte once again caught public attention after spending the day with residents in Surigao del Sur while the Senate continued hearing her impeachment case.
Vice President Sara Duterte spent Wednesday, July 8, joining community activities in Surigao del Sur, taking part in a tree planting event and local festivities despite the ongoing impeachment trial against her at the Senate, which has already entered its third day.
In a Facebook post, the Vice President shared highlights of her visit to Barangay Bigaan in the municipality of Hinatuan, where she participated in the celebration of the 18th Araw ng Bigaan and the 65th Patronal Fiesta of Mother of Perpetual Help.

Duterte expressed her appreciation for being invited to the occasion and for having the opportunity to celebrate with the local community.
“Nagagalak tayo na maimbitahan at makisaya ngayong araw kasama ang ating mga kababayan mula sa Barangay Bigaan, bayan ng Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, sa mismong selebrasyon ng 18th Araw ng Bigaan at 65th Patronal Fiesta ng Mother of Perpetual Help,” she said.
Aside from joining the town fiesta, Duterte also participated in a tree planting activity held at Bigaan National High School. The environmental activity was conducted together with several personnel from the Department of Education (DepEd), highlighting support for initiatives that promote environmental protection and sustainability.
“Kasabay ng selebrasyon, nakiisa rin tayo sa isinagawang tree planting activity sa loob mismo ng Bigaan National High School, kasama ang ilang mga kawani ng Department of Education,” Duterte said.
The Vice President likewise thanked the residents of Hinatuan for their warm hospitality during her visit. She expressed her gratitude for the invitation and for the opportunity to personally meet and interact with members of the community.
“Gikalipay nako nga mahimamat ug personal nga makumusta ang atong mga kaigsuonan sa Hinatuan. Daghang salamat sa inyong imbitasyon ug mainitong pagdawat kanamo,” she added.

Her participation in the local activities came as the Senate continued to hear the impeachment case filed against her. Since the impeachment proceedings officially opened on Monday, July 6, Duterte has yet to personally appear before the impeachment court during its hearings.
However, on Tuesday, July 7, she was seen at the Senate, where she met with her legal team and showed support for the lawyers handling her defense. Despite her presence in the Senate that day, she did not attend the actual impeachment trial proceedings.
While the legal process continues to unfold, Duterte’s public appearance in Surigao del Sur reflected her continued participation in community engagements and official activities outside the Senate.
