Statement of MalacaƱang on Stand of Marcos Jr. to Proposals Following Tacloban Incident
MARCOS JR. – The MalacaƱang Palace confirmed that the President is open to the proposal to lower the age of criminal responsibility.
Countless Filipinos were shocked when three (3) individuals were reportedly left dead by a shooting incident that involved minors and transpired inside a school in Tacloban City. The unfortunate incident happened at San Jose National High School.

Many Filipinos were left alarmed as two (2) minors were supposedly responsible for the school shooting in Tacloban City that claimed three (3) lives and left some young individuals injured.
Pres. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered an urgent probe following the said shooting incident inside a school in Tacloban City. The Department of Education (DepEd) Region 8 also immediately assured that they will help the students and the school personnel who were affected by the incident.

According to MalacaƱang, Pres. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is saddened over the said shooting incident inside the school premises in Tacloban City. The Chief Executive ordered the authorities to make sure that all areas including establishments and most especially schools are safe and secured.

Atty. Claire Castro also revealed the stand of Marcos Jr. to the proposals to lower the age of criminal responsibility in the Philippines. Based on News5, the President is open to lower the age of criminal responsibility to 12 citing it as “reasonable”.
While Marcos Jr. has not given his position on the matter, he is open for the review of the proposal. Based on another post, the President is also open to the proposals to restrict the social media access of the young individuals.

Vice Pres. Sara Duterte has issued a statement on the shooting incident inside a school in Tacloban City. The Vice President expressed her deep sadness over what happened and claimed that the incident is supposedly a “wake up call” to the government.
Duterte emphasized that this is not the first time that such unfortunate incidents transpired inside the school premises. She claimed that the government is falling short in protecting the young individuals as show by the incident.
“With the tragedies that have befallen our learners, including the loss of two student-athletes during a basketball training program, the government must confront the serious gaps in our ability to protect the youth,” she wrote.
As for Vice Pres. Duterte, what happened in Tacloban City allegedly shows that the government failed to recognize the value of the intelligence gathering and the identification of threats. The Vice President stressed that the government should not just react after a life has been taken.
“The continuing loss of young lives should serve as a wake-up call to this administration. The government must act now to make our schools safer and to better protect our learners,” the Vice President wrote in her statement.
