GMA Network Breaks Silence on Allegations Linking Arnold Clavio to Media Payoffs
ARNOLD CLAVIO – GMA Network has issued an official statement after one of its top news anchors, Arnold Clavio, became entangled in a growing bribery controversy.
GMA Network has released an official statement following allegations involving veteran news anchor Arnold Clavio, who is reportedly linked to monthly cash distributions to members of the media.
The controversy surfaced after Zaldy Co’s alleged former bagmen claimed that certain media personalities allegedly received paper bags containing money regularly. Among those named was Clavio, who immediately denied the accusations.
During a press conference held on Tuesday, June 16, organized by former Anakalusugan party-list Representative Mike Defensor, one of Co’s former bodyguards and bagmen claimed that he had witnessed money being distributed to media figures.
According to the former bagman, “Na-assign po ako sa isang PR na taga-media na si Bernard Peralta. Doon ko po nakita yung mga nabibigyan po ng mga paper bag, na mga anchor na taga-media, kagaya po ni Arnold Clavio”.
His statement was interrupted as attendees at the press conference reportedly cheered and applauded.
He continued, “At doon lang po muna, sa affidavit ko na lang po yung ibang kuwan… sampol lang ho ‘yon, marami pa ho akong mga nakilala.”
Clavio responded to the allegations through an Instagram post on the same day, firmly rejecting the claims.
“LIES.”
“Nakakatawa.”
“Nakakalungkot. Pero lahat ng ito ay haharapin ko ng walang takot. Talk is cheap. Bago ang dada, ebidensya muna. Hindi ako natatakot. Wala akong itinatago.”
“Magkita na lang kami sa korte, at doon ulitin nya lahat ng kanyang walang ka kwenta kwentang bintang,” the reporter said.
Meanwhile, GMA Network also issued its official statement regarding the issue.
“GMA Network has noted the statements made during a press conference earlier today. The Network takes matters involving the integrity of our journalists seriously. The Network will evaluate the matter further. GMA Network remains committed to responsible journalism. We ask the public to refrain from drawing conclusions based on unverified information,” they said.
As of writing, no evidence has been publicly presented to substantiate the allegations, and the matter may ultimately be addressed through legal proceedings.
