Vendors to Be Relocated Due to Road Clearing in Andagao, Kalibo
Vendors affected by the upcoming road clearing operation in Judge Martelino Road, Barangay Andagao, Kalibo are set to be relocated to a new area.
According to Andagao Barangay Captain Juliet Melgarejo, the vendors who have been selling along the road were informed about the clearing plan as early as last year. They were given enough time to prepare for the changes, with a deadline set until December.
Some vendors followed the instruction early, while others requested additional time to continue their business in the area as part of efforts to keep the road clear and safe for the public.
Melgarejo explained that the local government understands the situation of vendors, many of whom rely on daily earnings to support their families.
However, she also stressed the importance of following the directive from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) to ensure that roads remain clean, orderly, and free from any obstructions that could affect traffic flow and public safety.
The road clearing operation aims to improve accessibility and reduce congestion along the busy stretch of Judge Martelino Road. Authorities believe that clearing the area will also help prevent accidents and make travel safer for both pedestrians and motorists.
At the same time, the barangay assured that proper assistance will be provided to the affected vendors. A list has already been prepared to identify those who will be relocated, and priority will be given to residents of Andagao when assigning the new vending area.
The local government emphasized that the relocation is part of a broader effort to balance public order and the livelihood of small vendors. While adjustments may be difficult at first, officials hope that the new setup will provide a more organized space for business while keeping public roads clear and functional.
