Senate Pres. Alan Peter Cayetano Speaks on Current Happenings in Chamber
ALAN PETER CAYETANO – The Senate President claimed that he used the framework of Pokemon to explain the current tension in the Senate to his nephew.
A lot of things recently transpired in the Philippine government. The House of Representatives has impeached Vice Pres. Sara Duterte for the second time around and the Articles of Impeachment are expected to be transmitted to the Senate.
Duterte claimed that it is fine with her if she will no longer be the vice president of the country. Otherwise, she said she can also help a lot of people through the Office of the Vice President.
Vice Pres. Sara Duterte claimed that former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte is not aware of the impeachment complaints against her. According to her, they only speak good news to their father. The former Chief Executive remains detained under the custody of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, Netherlands.
The ICC has also released an arrest warrant against Sen. Bato dela Rosa. He appeared in the Senate and voted which led to the ouster of former Senate Pres. Tito Sotto who was replaced with now-SP Alan Peter Cayetano. Thirteen senators voted to declare the Senate presidency vacant and Dela Rosa who was absent from the Senate sessions for 6 months was one of them.
The National Bureau of Investigation allegedly attempted to arrest Sen. Bato dela Rosa. However, currently, he is no longer under the custody of the Senate as he left the chamber during a controversial incident. The recent happenings sparked tension among the senators and Senate Pres. Alan Peter Cayetano explained it using a “Pokemon” framework.
Senate Pres. Alan Peter Cayetano made the explanation of the Senate tension through the “Pokemon” framework to his nephew. Based on a post, he stressed that he cannot give his young nephew a lengthy explanation of everything.
“I knew I couldn’t just tell him (referring to his nephew), ‘You understand when you’re older.’ I also knew that I could not give him a one-hour explanation of all political issues, what’s the ICC? What’s protective custody? What’s an attack? Why 13? Etcetera,” Cayetano said.
Senate Pres. Alan Peter Cayetano described ideas such as “Mega Dream,” “perfect order,” “ascended heroes,” and later “chaos rising.” He also made comparisons between political divisions to “heroes and villains” in comics and movies.
“So am I saying we are good and they’re bad? No. What I’m saying [is] – there are 24 senators. There are different political leanings. There are a lot of issues,” the Senator who is a Pokemon cards collector said in a post.
Former Senate Pres. Tito Sotto believes that his ouster may have something to do with the possible impeachment trial of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. Sotto has always been vocal of wanting the impeachment court to convene immediately.
