Thief Makes Sign of the Cross Before Robbery in Cainta
A male thief was seen making the sign of the cross moments before committing a robbery in Cainta, Rizal.
On Saturday, April 18, 2026, the robbery happened in an alley at Bagong Silang, Barangay San Juan, and was captured on CCTV.
In the video, the suspect could be seen waiting quietly in a narrow alley, as if expecting someone to pass by. Before making any move, he paused and made a sign of the cross. He was also holding a knife, which raised concern about his intentions.
Not long after, he signaled to an accomplice and hid to the side, preparing for their target. Soon, an Indian national arrived in the area. He was reportedly going around to collect payments from people who owed money.
The suspect suddenly approached him, leaving the victim with no choice but to hand over the P5,000 cash he was carrying. After the robbery, the suspect calmly walked away as if nothing had happened.
Local officials later confirmed that the suspect is a resident of the area. Members of the neighborhood association went to his house, but he was no longer there. Records also showed that he had previously been jailed in February for stealing a door.
Despite the incident, the victim chose not to file a complaint, as he is not from the area. Barangay officials assured that they are providing protection to ensure his safety while he continues his work.
“Yun talaga ang pakay, inabangan niya sa eskenita,” Bagong Silang Neighborhood Association president Cesar Quiano said.
Authorities have since increased security in the community. They are also urging the suspect to surrender, assuring that help will be given if he comes forward. The barangay remains alert and continues to work together to prevent similar incidents from happening again.
