Australian Traveler Loses Money at NAIA, Three Airport Workers Investigated
NAIA – What should have been a smooth journey became a cause for concern after money allegedly went missing inside NAIA.
Three personnel assigned at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 are now under investigation following a complaint from an Australian passenger who reported missing cash, according to the Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Sunday.
The incident involved the alleged loss of P7,000 and NTD1,000, which is equivalent to around P1,891.70. Authorities have already taken initial action as part of the ongoing probe into the matter.

“Sec. Lopez has ordered the relief of two Security Screening Officers (SSO) and a supervisor at Naia Terminal 3, in connection with the reported disappearance of P7,000 and NTD 1,000 (New Taiwan Dollars) from an Australian national passenger recently,” the DOTr said in a statement.
The agency further confirmed that the three individuals involved are now facing both criminal and administrative complaints. “The three are facing criminal and administrative cases,” it continued.
Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez emphasized that personnel from the Office for Transportation Security (OTS), particularly Security Screening Officers, are assigned to safeguard travelers and maintain order within airport premises—not to take advantage of passengers.
In line with this, Lopez issued a stern warning to those who may be abusing their authority. He underscored that any personnel found guilty of unlawful acts would face serious consequences under the law.
“If it is proven that some OTS Security Screening Officers are the ones who are leading the violation of the law including stealing passengers’ belongings or money, you will definitely be held accountable and we will ensure that the perpetrators are punished,” Lopez warned in the same statement.

The DOTr also encouraged the public to remain vigilant while traveling. Passengers were advised to closely monitor their belongings and immediately report any suspicious behavior involving airport staff to authorities.
The investigation remains ongoing as officials work to determine the full circumstances behind the incident and ensure accountability for those involved.
