Eid’l Fitr Message of Pres. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to Muslims
MARCOS JR. – The President called for unity in his message for the Filipinos on the Muslim celebration Eid’l Fitr.
Among the Muslims, one of the most cherished annual celebrations is Eid’l Fitr which is also known as the “Festival of the Breaking of the Fast”. This celebration marks the end of the month-long observance of Ramadan, a sacred period of fasting, prayer, charity, and spiritual renewal. In the Philippines, Eid’l Fitr is often declared a regular holiday just like another Muslim celebration, the Eid al-Adha or also known as the “Feast of Sacrifice”.

Unlike fixed-date holidays in the Philippines, both Eid’l Fitr and Eid al-Adha are dependent on the lunar calendar. Thus, they are not included in the initial list of official Philippine holidays for 2026 as well as in the years before.
For the Eid’l Fitr celebration this year, the Philippine government first set the holiday on Friday, March 20, 2026. Pres. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. declared March 20 a regular holiday. However, a change in the date of the Muslim celebration took place.

The traditional moon-sighting conducted on Thursday did not reveal the crescent moon. It urged the Islamic scholars in the Bangsamoro region to move the actual observance of the feast of the Breaking of the Fast on Saturday on Saturday, March 21. Muslim officials rely on long-range telescopes during these moon-sighting rites to determine the precise start of the celebration. They ensure that the situation aligns with their Islamic tradition.

Today, as the Muslim community celebrates the Eid’l Fitr, Pres. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. extended his greetings to Filipino Muslims through a video message posted on social media. In his message, the Chief Executive emphasized the values of compassion, humility, patience, and charity that Ramadan instills.
According to Marcos Jr., the Eid’l Fitr is a solemn and joyous occasion which is also a chance to reflect on sacrifice and discipline while rejoicing in generosity and solidarity. The President urged the faithful to carry these virtues beyond the holy month to their daily lives.
“This occassion is important to all of us as the virtues cultivated during Ramadan are the same virtues that will guide our nation towards deeper solidarity and a more hopeful future,” he said.

Furthermore, Pres. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. also expressed his hope that the Muslim celebration would bring comfort to those facing hardships, renew strength for those who are serving others, and spread joy in Filipino homes. He ended his post greeting the Filipino Muslims “Eid Mubarak”.
“May it unite us across faiths and cultures as we build a Bagong Pilipinas where dignity is upheld, opportunity reaches every Filipino and peace is sustained through justice and mutual respect,” the President wrote in his post.
Yesterday, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte also gave a message for the Filipino Muslims on Eid’l Fitr.
