Nic Chien opened up about his close relationship with his mother, Lea Salonga, emphasizing that her main concern has always been his happiness and well-being. The Broadway Diva has long been admired by many because of her unconditional love for her child.
Salonga openly declares her love and acceptance of her child, who decided to make major transitions in his life.
In an interview, Nic shared that his mom has consistently shown support for him, especially as he navigates his personal journey and identity. He added that his mother’s approach when it comes to being a parent centers on making sure he feels safe, accepted, and free to be himself.
While it is difficult to navigate the complexity of identity and self-discovery, having Lea, who has always been supportive of him, made a significant difference. He described his mother as someone who listens, learns, and ultimately prioritizes his growth and emotional health.
“My mom, I think, is the complete opposite of Wendla, of Wendla’s mom, I mean. Like, I think, she’s open, she’s loving, she’s kind. She’s one of the most understanding people I’ve ever known. And, you know, I really don’t think I could have asked for a better mother, and I think that if I was with anybody else, that I wouldn’t be where I am today. And I wouldn’t, you know, I wouldn’t be able to sing her praises and everything,” he added.
Meanwhile, he is following in his mother’s footsteps. Nic pursued a career in the performing arts, appearing in theater productions and showcasing his talents both onstage and off.
