Mother Dies After Collapsing While Queuing for DSWD Aid Distribution

Mother Lost Her Life While Queuing for DSWD Aid Distribution

A 31-year-old mother of four lost her life after collapsing while queuing for DSWD financial assistance in Mandaue City.

On March 11, 2026 (Wednesday), the woman, identified as Mary Christ Cuizon from Barangay Paknaan, went to a gymnasium in Barangay Opao.

The venue was being used for the validation of beneficiaries who would receive cash assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development. The program was intended to support residents who were affected by Typhoon Tino.

Cuizon was among the listed beneficiaries and personally went to the venue to complete the required validation process. The assistance aimed to provide P5,000 for families whose homes were partially damaged and P10,000 for those whose houses were completely destroyed by the storm.

While waiting for her turn, Cuizon suddenly lost consciousness. People nearby noticed that she had collapsed, but according to her family, it reportedly took several minutes before she was brought to the Mandaue City Hospital for medical attention.

Unfortunately, doctors were unable to save her. Her father later shared that Mary Christ had given birth about six months earlier and was still recovering from childbirth. However, she had assured her family that she felt well before leaving home that morning to process the aid.

The young mother left behind four children. Her eldest child is 10 years old, while the youngest is only six months old. Her family described the loss as deeply painful, especially since she only went out that day to secure assistance for her household.

The family is now asking local officials to review the CCTV footage from the venue to determine if there were delays in providing help when she collapsed.

Officials from the social welfare office did not immediately release a statement regarding the incident, but they reportedly assured the family that burial assistance would be provided to help them during this difficult time.
