Alleged Financial Problems Derail ‘The Kingdom’ Fantasy Project
THE KINGDOM – Reports claim that the much-awaited fantasy series The Kingdom has been allegedly shelved due to budget concerns.
The highly anticipated fantasy series “The Kingdom: Magkabilang Mundo,” which was originally scheduled to air on TV5 in 2026, has reportedly been shelved due to budget constraints. The project had already generated early excitement among viewers, but it will no longer move forward as planned.
In a recent report by showbiz insider Ogie Diaz on their vlog “Showbiz Update” alongside Mama Loi and Dyosa Pockoh last February 27, it was revealed that the series had officially been put on hold. According to Diaz, the production encountered financial difficulties that ultimately forced the management to discontinue the project.

The series was said to have a massive production budget of P200 million. It was supposed to be directed by Michael Tuviera, who also directed the film adaptation of “The Kingdom.” Given its high budget and grand concept, many expected the series to match or even surpass the success of its movie counterpart.
A source shared, “Sobrang pagtitipid ngayong ang pamunuan ng TV5 kasi nga ‘di ba, ang laki-laki ng nailabas ng pera last year na hindi naman bumalik kahit puhunan lang.”
Reports also surfaced that Piolo Pascual was disappointed by the cancellation of the series. He was set to star in the project alongside Derek Ramsay, making their pairing one of the most anticipated collaborations for the network.

One of the major factors reportedly affecting MQuest Ventures and Cignal was the poor performance of “Manila’s Finest,” which failed to recover its investment despite substantial funding. This was in stark contrast to the 2024 film version of “The Kingdom,” starring Vic Sotto and Piolo Pascual, which performed well at the box office during its run.
For now, the spotlight turns to another upcoming series titled “Secret in Prague,” starring Enrique Gil and Andrea Brillantes. The project will be directed by Barry Gonzales and produced by MQuest Ventures and Slingshot Studios. Notably, Slingshot Studios is owned by Enrique Gil himself, making him a co-producer of the series.
