Netizens React to Nurse Sitting While Patient Stands

Nurse Sparks Debate w/ Unusual Blood Pressure Check

NURSE – A viral video showing a nurse seated while taking a patient’s blood pressure has stirred curiosity and debate online.

When nurses take a patient’s blood pressure, proper positioning is crucial to ensure an accurate reading. Medical guidelines recommend that the patient be seated comfortably, with their back supported, feet flat on the floor, and arm resting at heart level.

This relaxed position helps prevent false readings that may occur when a patient is tense, standing, or in an awkward posture. Even small movements or muscle strain can affect blood pressure results, which is why healthcare professionals emphasize correct positioning during the procedure.

A recent viral video sparked discussion online after viewers noticed an unusual scene during a blood pressure check. In the video, the nurse could be seen with one foot raised and placed on a chair while conducting the blood pressure reading. The clip quickly drew mixed reactions from netizens, many of whom questioned whether proper procedure was being followed.

According to several comments, it would have been better if the patient had been the one seated and in a relaxed position to ensure the accuracy of the results. One netizen remarked, “Parang baliktad ata,” suggesting that the situation appeared reversed.

However, not everyone was quick to criticize. Some came to the nurse’s defense, offering possible explanations for what was seen in the video. One netizen pointed out, “Baka naman postural BP kasi. ‘Yun ‘yung kukunin muna ang BP nang nakatayo saka papaupuin,” insisting that the nurse might have been conducting a postural blood pressure test.

Postural blood pressure, also known as orthostatic blood pressure measurement, involves taking readings while the patient is in different positions, usually lying down, sitting, and standing, to check for significant changes. This test is commonly used to detect conditions such as orthostatic hypotension.

While the video may have raised eyebrows, it also highlighted the importance of understanding medical procedures before jumping to conclusions. Proper context is essential, especially when evaluating brief clips shared on social media.
