April 2026 Will Mark the End of Messenger.com

Messenger.com Is Shutting Down: What Users Must Know Before April 2026

MESSENGER – Millions of users may soon need to adjust their messaging habits as Meta announces the shutdown of Messenger.com by April 2026.

Meta has officially announced a major change affecting millions of users worldwide: Messenger.com will no longer be available starting April 2026. The decision was recently confirmed by Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook and Messenger.

According to the company, both the standalone Messenger website and its desktop application will be discontinued next year. This means users who currently access their chats through messenger.com or the Messenger desktop app will need to adjust to a new setup.

In its official statement, Meta said:

“Starting April 2026, messenger.com will no longer be available for messaging. The Messenger desktop app is also no longer available.

“You can use facebook.com/messages to continue messaging on web,” said Meta.

With this change, messaging on desktop or laptop computers will now be centralized through Facebook’s main website. Instead of going to messenger.com, users will automatically be redirected to facebook.com/messages to continue their conversations.

Meanwhile, Meta clarified that Messenger itself is not shutting down entirely. The company reassured users that the mobile version of Messenger will continue to operate normally. Those who prefer chatting through their smartphones or tablets will not be affected by the removal of the standalone website.

Meta further explained:

“After messenger.com goes away, you will be automatically redirected to use facebook.com/messages for messaging on a computer. You can continue your conversations there or on the Messenger mobile app.

“If you currently use Messenger without a Facebook account, you can continue your conversations on the Messenger mobile app,” said Meta.

This clarification is particularly important for users who rely on Messenger without maintaining an active Facebook account. They will still be able to access their conversations through the mobile app, ensuring uninterrupted communication.

As April 2026 approaches, users are encouraged to familiarize themselves with facebook.com/messages or continue using the Messenger mobile application for a smooth transition.
