Working Student Dies After Being Stabbed w/ Ice Pick During Robbery
A working student who is set to graduate in May 2026 has lost his life after being stabbed with an ice pick during a robbery in Rodriguez, Rizal.
In the early hours of Sunday, February 8, 2026, a 21-year-old working student, Jade Kirby Barona died in an ice pick stabbing incident. His death has left his family, friends, and community in grief, especially since he was only months away from graduating.
CCTV footage showed Jade walking along Pamantasan Road in Kasiglahan Village, Area 6, Barangay San Jose, with a female coworker at around 1:00 in the morning.

After a few moments, three men were seen following them. Two of the suspects approached the pair, while the third acted as a lookout. The coworker was forced to sit down after her bag was taken.
“Bigla pong may humatak ng bag ko, tapos nakatutok na sa amin ‘yung patalim po. Paglingon ko po sinabihan ko siya na may tama na po siya,” the victim’s coworker said.
The two victims managed to run away, but Jade had already been stabbed in the chest. Earlier that night, Jade and his coworker were riding a tricycle on their way home from their job at a fast food chain.

They were dropped off in a dark area, where they began walking. They later encountered the three suspects, who appeared to be fixing a motorcycle by the roadside and even asked to borrow a flashlight from Jade.
A passing tricycle driver rushed the wounded student to the hospital, but he was declared dead due to the fatal stab wound.
Jade was taking up Hospitality Management and was scheduled to graduate on May 6. He worked while studying to help support his family and dreamed of becoming a seaman. His family shared that he wanted to help his father so he would no longer need to work.
