Why Mar Roxas Wants His Name Kept Out of Today’s Political Battles
MAR ROXAS – Former senator Mar Roxas was unexpectedly drawn back into political discussion after a viral social media post sparked controversy.
Former Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) secretary and senator Mar Roxas has spoken out against the alleged misuse of his name in what he described as a politically motivated agenda involving the Duterte family, stressing that he wants no part in current political maneuverings.
The issue stemmed from a Facebook post shared by a content creator known as “Samar Western Vlogger,” which featured an image of Roxas alongside a strong political message urging the public to prevent the Duterte family from returning to Malacañang.

The text on the image read: “Wag na nating Payagan pa ang Mga Duterte na makabalik sa Malacanang, Lalo lamang na Sasadlak Pilipinas sa kagulu-Han, Nakit naman natin kung Paano mamuno ang isang Duterte, Lalong naghirap ang Pilipinas,” implying that the statement came directly from the former senator.
The post quickly circulated online, prompting reactions from netizens and drawing Roxas into a political discussion he said he did not initiate. In response, Roxas expressed his displeasure and clarified that he had nothing to do with the post or its message.
On Thursday, January 22, Roxas addressed the controversy on his X (formerly Twitter) account, where he firmly denied any involvement and asked the public to stop spreading false information using his name. In his statement, he directly called out those behind the post, saying, “To whoever created and is spreading this FAKE post … pwede ba …. Hindi ko alam kung ano ang motibo ninyo pero huwag niyo na ako gamitin sa mga agenda ninyo,” making it clear that he does not wish to be dragged into partisan narratives.

Roxas further emphasized that he is content with his current situation away from the political spotlight. He added, “Masaya ako sa pribado kong buhay.” The remark underscored his apparent desire to focus on his personal life rather than re-engage in public political debates.
As of this writing, the Facebook page “Samar Western Vlogger” has yet to release any statement addressing the accusations of spreading fake news or clarifying the source of the controversial post. The incident highlights ongoing concerns about misinformation online and the use of public figures’ names to push political agendas without consent.
For Roxas, the message was straightforward: he wants his name kept out of fabricated political content and his private life respected.
