Lea Salonga has this advice for future parents
Broadway diva Lea Salonga talked about the transition that her son Nic Chien went through and her view as a supportive parent.
Lea is one of the most popular global Pinoy artists. She brought pride to the country many times already, and she continues to do so until now. Throughout her career, she has already received recognition and awards, locally and internationally.
Aside from being an awesome artist, Lea is also an awesome mother to her child. Back in early 2025, Nic’s transition was made public.

Lea Salonga fully supported her son. The singer-actress shared a heartfelt post of her magazine feature with Nic Chien. “Iâm incredibly proud of this brave human,” she wrote in the caption of her post.
In a recent interview, based on the article in ABS-CBN Entertainment, Lea shared a piece of advice to future parents, especially regarding a child who could be a member of the LGBTQIA+ community.
âTo those who do not have kids, if you think you will not be able to love your child if they come out to youâif they say âmom, i’m lesbian, bisexual or trans,â if under those conditions your love will stop. Do not have children save yourself the drama and heartbreak. If hindi mo kaya, wag na lang,â the Broadway diva stressed.
Lea also stressed that children are not customizable. For her, every kid is a blind box, and parents do not know what they are going to get, and there’s a possibility that they will get the one they do not like.

The celebrity mom also shared that so far, Nic’s transition has received positive feedback. âWhen there is change, the voice drops, body hair, it was a much more positive outcome⌠I just want a happy kid,â Lea said.
The Broadway Diva also shared that her son had to deal a lot with dysphoria that affected his mental health and every aspect of his life. It was a terrible feeling for her seeing her son in that situation, and she could do nothing, and there was a guilt feelng that she could not help her son.
Lea Salonga was thankful that through support, therapy, and hormone treatment, her son gained confidence and felt more comfortable in his body.
