The death toll from the Cebu trash landslide is now at 35.
CEBU TRASH LANDSLIDE – As of the latest figures, the death toll from the unfortunate incident has risen to 35, with one still missing.
The landslide that occurred in Barangay Binaliw landfill in Cebu City has buried dozens of people, and while the rescue operations are still ongoing, the figures of the death toll also continue to rise. Cebu City Councilor Dave Tumulak confirmed on Saturday that deaths from the incident have already gone up to 35.

On Saturday alone, three dead bodies were recovered: two at 2:53 PM and one at 3:10 PM. All three are yet to be identified. As of this writing, there’s still one person missing.
“This is Santo Niño’s Miracle that we are now just looking for one out of 36,” Tumulak said, as they are now down to finding the last victim of the tragic trash slide, which toppled on January 8, that buried sanitation workers. The search operations for the last victim of the trash slide will continue.
According to the operator of the Binaliw landfill, Prime Integrated Waste Solutions Inc., the collapse was likely triggered by the magnitude 6.9 earthquake in September 2025. This strong shaking was followed by thousands of aftershocks that lasted for months. The company also cited that Typhoon Tino’s extreme rainfall might have contributed, based on the initial assessment of city officials and experts.
Meanwhile, despite extremely dangerous conditions following the collapse, posed by worsening weather, unstable ground, toxic fumes, and the constant threat of secondary collapses, the search and rescue continued. The authorities have stressed that it was not a retrieval mission because of the possibility of survivors and out of respect for the victims’ families.
