Young Man Survives Jump Into River After Family Dispute in Valenzuela City
A young man working as a delivery rider has jumped into a river in Valenzuela City after his mother allegedly refused to give him money.
On Tuesday morning (January 13, 2026), a 22-year-old man narrowly survived after jumping into a river in Valenzuela City after having an emotional disagreement with his mother. The young man reportedly felt hurt after being scolded and denied money he had asked for.
Police said the incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. The man rode his motorcycle to Polo Bridge along M.H. Del Pilar Street in Barangay Poblacion. Witnesses later saw him stop at the bridge before suddenly jumping into the deep river below. One witness quickly asked for help from the authorities.

As the man hit the water, he began to regain his senses and realized the danger he was in. He then struggled to swim toward the riverbank. His effort was noticed by responding police officers and traffic enforcers, who immediately rushed to the area.
The rescuers were able to pull him out of the water and bring him to safety with teamwork and quick action.
Police officers who responded said the man was weak but conscious when he was rescued. He was given immediate assistance and checked to make sure he was no longer in danger.

Authorities shared that the man had a change of heart while in the water, which led him to fight for his life instead of giving up.
Valenzuela police officials said they are now closely coordinating with the man’s family to ensure he receives proper care and emotional support. The authorities emphasized the importance of understanding and communication within families, especially during moments of stress or frustration.
Authorities continue to encourage people experiencing emotional distress to seek help from loved ones, community leaders, or local support services, stressing that no problem is too small to talk about, and that help is always available.
