Authorities Arrest Young Man for Allegedly Firing a Gun in Tondo During New Year Celebration
A young man was arrested after he was reportedly caught firing a gun in the early hours of New Year’s Day in Tondo, Manila.
Around 2 a.m. on January 1, 2026 (Wednesday), the police authorities arrested a man for firing a gun during New Year Day celebration in Barangay 118, while many residents were still welcoming the new year in their homes.
According to the Manila Police District, authorities received reports from concerned residents about a man who allegedly pulled out a firearm and started firing it in the area. The sound of gunshots caused fear among nearby households, prompting people to alert the police right away.
Police officers quickly went to the scene to check the situation and prevent possible harm. When they arrived, they reportedly saw the suspect still holding a pistol. He was immediately approached and arrested without further incident.
The man was identified as a 21-year-old resident of the same barangay. Authorities said a 9mm pistol and several live bullets were recovered from his possession.
While no one was reported injured, the police stressed that the act was dangerous, especially in a crowded residential area where stray bullets could easily hurt innocent people.
Police are now checking if the suspect may have been involved in other incidents or crimes. They are also reminding the public that firing guns during celebrations is illegal and puts lives at risk. Even one careless act can lead to tragedy.
