Vendor Criticized Online After Getting Upset When Called Tita by Young Customer
A vendor reportedly became upset after being called tita by a child customer, which angered the child’s mother.
Recently, Althea Sansing-Encarnacion, a Facebook user, shared her disappointment over a vendor who allegedly reacted angrily after her child addressed her as ‘tita’. The post quickly went viral and drew various reactions online.
According to her post, her child approached the vendor in a respectful and friendly way, using the term tita while asking about the price of the balut. Instead of responding kindly, the vendor allegedly reacted negatively and corrected the child in a harsh manner.
The mother said her child became scared after the encounter. She also shared that the vendor did not explain calmly or offer an alternative way to be addressed. This made the situation more uncomfortable, especially since the child only intended to be polite.
The supposed simple purchase turned into a distressing experience for both the child and the parent.
Many netizens sided with the mother, saying that calling someone tita is a common and respectful way for children to address older people in the Philippines. Others pointed out that while everyone has personal preferences, there are gentler ways to correct a child without causing fear or embarrassment.
