Alden Richards is set to have his first villain role
Asia’s Multimedia Star Alden Richards will star in an upcoming Hollywood movie, and this will mark his first “kontrabida” role.
Alden is indeed one of the most prominent leading men of his generation. For his 15 years in the entertainment industry, his roles were “bida” or a character who is on the good side.
He was known for his leading man roles, especially in Hello, Love, Goodbye and Hello, Love, Again. These are two of the top-grossing films in the Philippines in which Alden played the love interest of the character of Joy, played by Asia’s Superstar Kathryn Bernardo.
For next year, Alden Richards is set to do a big project. Based on the article in ABS-CBN Entertainment, the Kapuso star is set to do a Hollywood action film, Big Tiger.
Alden admitted that it has been his dream to portray a villain role. “I have been dreaming about this, the bad guy,” Richards said Sunday in Mandaluyong City. “Iba, medyo disturbing kasi hindi ako sanay. But at the end of the day, when I saw the teaser—I think I am going to like this job,” the actor shared.
In the movie, he would give life to the character of John Lynch, and through this, he was required to explore new emotional and physical demands.
“There are a lot of new experiences in terms of feelings, emotions, body language. Since this is an action film, stunt preps,” the actor shared. He also shared that his “kontrabida” roles should have a greater range and depth.
“Mas marami pwede laruin. At times the characterizations of antagonists, depending on the character, are quite eccentric and volatile. Good thing is I was guided by the director and writer,” Alden shared.
This is the first international project of Alden’s production company, Myriad Entertainment. His company is a co-producer of this project. He shared that when he established the company, one of its main goals was to give back to the entertainment industry.
He is hoping that this collaboration will open more opportunities for Filipinos. “For us to be proud of something we have,” Alden said, adding that this will showcase Filipino talents and provide more jobs.
Big Tiger is set to have its global release in 2026. This was written and directed by Keoni Waxman and also features Byron Mann, Katherine McNamara, Luke Goss, and Max Collins.
