Susan Enriquez had this reaction to the statement from DTI
Kapuso veteran journalist Susan Enriquez asked Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Cristina Roque to teach her how to buy the Noche Buena with a P500 budget.
The head of the agency received negative comments when she said in a statement that this coming December 25, for the Christmas celebration, Filipinos could celebrate with just a small budget amounting to P500. This did not sit well with many netizens and the general public, and they expressed their negative reactions.
Some accused Roque of not really knowing the real struggles of many Filipinos when it comes to the high prices of basic commodities.

However, DTI showed a list of price guides, and this supported the Secretary’s statement that a P500 Noche Buena budget is possible. Amid the criticism, Roque insisted that this budget can be enough, but she stressed that this depends on the number of family members. She explained that if parents only had one child, then this budget would be enough.
Several celebrities also debunked DTI’s statement about this. However, there are some Filipinos who supported the department’s price breakdown and that it is really possible to have Noche Buena with the said budget.

Susan Enriquez also shared her thoughts on the issue. In a post on her Facebook page, the veteran journalist asked DTI Secretary Cristina Roque to teach her how this budget would be enough. If it is possible, Susan wanted to go to the market with the DTI Secretary, so that she could learn the budgeting.
“Gusto ko sana makasama sa palengke si dti sec cristina roque para magpaturo ng pwedeng mga bilhin sa palengke na pang noche buena sa budget na 500 pesos. Pwede po ba secretary?” Susan wrote.
