Zaldy Co has finally broken his silence on the allegations against him
Former Congressman Zaldy Co claimed that it was former House Speaker Martin Romualdez who told him to stay out of the country, and that it was allegedly what President Bongbong Marcos had instructed.
Co was accused of being involved in the anomalous flood control projects. He left he country even before the Senate hearing on this issue. While the investigation is taking place in the country, Co has reportedly been spotted transferring from country to country.
Months after the corruption issue in the projects under the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Co released a video statement.
Based on the video shared on the Facebook Page of The Freeman, Zaldy Co said that he has been silent for quite a while, and that he knows the Filipino people hated him.
However, he said that before the public would judge him, people should let him “explain the whole truth.” The former congressman said that it took a long time for him to speak because there was a direct order to him not to return to the Philippines and just remain silent.
Co said that he left the county on July 19, 2025, for his medical check-up. He was scheduled to return to the country after President Bongbong Marcos’s State of the Nation Address.
“Pero habang papauwi na ako, tinawagan ako ni former Speaker Martin Romualdez at sinabihan, ‘Stay out of the country, you will be well taken care of as instructed by the President,’” Co said.
He also said that initially, he believed them, and that was the reason why he did not return to the country and just remained silent. However, Zaldy Co said that he did not know at first that the promise that he would be well taken care of would mean that he would be the “panakip butas para sa kanilang kampanya laban sa korupsyon.
The former lawmaker stressed that he was made into a poster boy for the administration’s lies. “Ngayon, hindi na ako mananahimik, ilalabas ko ang lahat ng katotohanan, may resibo, may ebidensya, at may pangalan,” Co said.
