Dea*h by Firing Squad!” Barzaga’s Bold Call to Punish Illegal Loggers & Miners
KIKO BARZAGA – Cavite Representative Kiko Barzaga has sparked nationwide debate after calling for death by firing squad as punishment for individuals and government officials involved in illegal logging and mining.
Cavite 4th District Representative Kiko Barzaga has made a bold call for the reinstatement of the death penalty, specifically by fir*ng squad, against individuals and groups proven guilty of engaging in illegal logging and mining activities in the Philippines.
According to Barzaga, such extreme punishment is necessary to hold accountable those responsible for the massive deforestation and environmental destruction that have led to the severe and widespread flooding across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao in recent weeks.

In a Facebook post, Kiko Barzaga did not mince words in expressing his frustration over the ongoing environmental crisis. He wrote: “There must be only one punishment for illegal logging and mining in important national environmental assets like the Sierra Madre Mountain Range, and that is Dea*h Penalty by Firing Squad.”
The congressman’s statement came as a reaction to the devastating floods that have claimed numerous lives and displaced thousands of families nationwide. He pointed out that many of these disasters are man-made, caused by rampant illegal logging and irresponsible mining operations that have stripped the country’s mountains and forests of natural protection against flooding and landslides.
Barzaga emphasized that it is not only private individuals but also certain government officials and agencies that must be held accountable for allowing or turning a blind eye to these illegal activities. He suggested that those complicit in the destruction of the environment deserve the same harsh punishment.
“There must be only one punishment for illegal logging and mining in important national environmental assets like the Sierra Madre Mountain Range, and that is Dea*h Penalty by Firing Squad,” his post reiterated.

Following his statement, many netizens expressed agreement and support for the lawmaker’s proposal, saying that imposing the death penalty on those who exploit the country’s natural resources is justified. Others echoed his sentiments, claiming that such a measure might finally serve as a strong deterrent against the continuing destruction of the nation’s forests—destruction that has cost countless lives and livelihoods.
Barzaga’s proposal reignites the long-running debate on capital punishment in the Philippines, this time tied to the urgent issue of environmental protection and accountability.
