Martin Romualdez shared this message amid the recent typhoon
Leyte’s first district representative Martin Romualdez had this appeal to the public on typhoon Yolanda’s anniversary.
The typhoon with the international name Haiyan hit the Philippines on November 8, 2013. It was under a Category 5 typhoon with wind gusts reportedly up to 275 km/hr. With this, Yolanda was considered the most powerful typhoon that hit the country, so far.
The super typhoon that occurred over a decade ago left a devastating situation, especially in Eastern Visayas. This calamity took the lives of more than 6,000 people. Homes were wrecked, buildings collapsed, and the typhoon aftermath left a devastating scenario.

In a recent statement, Cong. Martin Romualdez appealed to the public, based on the report from Abante News.
“Twelve years have passed, but the lessons of Yolanda remain deeply etched in our hearts. We honor the memory of those we lost by ensuring that their sacrifice continues to inspire preparedness, compassion, and solidarity among our people,” the lawmaker said.
According to Cong. Romualdez, as Filipino people commemorate the anniversary of the strongest typhoon to hit the Philippines, the country is once again facing another super typhoon.

Typhoon Uwan made landfall on November 9 in Catanduanes. This storm reportedly can cover the whole Philippines and was declared a super typhoon on Sunday.
Romualdez said that the lesson that Filipinos learned from Yolanda is clear. That experience declared that we cannot stop the storm, but we can prepare for it with unity and compassion. The former House Speaker also said that preparedness is not only the responsibility of the government but of every Filipino.
Meanwhile, the local government units (LGUs) have declared class suspension for November 10, 2025, Monday. Here are the areas under “Walang Pasok.”
