U.S. Donates $1M to Support PH Disaster Relief Efforts

U.S. Extends Helping Hand with $1 Million Disaster Assistance to the Philippines

US – In a show of solidarity and friendship, Washington has announced $1 million in emergency aid to bolster the Philippines’ disaster response efforts following Typhoon Tino’s deadly impact.

The United States has announced a $1 million emergency aid package to assist the Philippine government in its disaster relief efforts following the devastation caused by Typhoon Tino and a series of powerful earthquakes in the southern part of the country.

Washington stated that the assistance will provide emergency shelter, logistical support, and access to safe water and sanitation for communities most affected by Typhoon Tino (Kalmaegi). Many of these regions are still reeling from consecutive storms and the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that hit Cebu on September 30.

“The United States and the Philippines are not only ironclad allies—we are friends and partners bound by a shared history, common values, and a steadfast commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific. As millions of Filipinos face the challenges left by these disasters, including the loss of family and loved ones, our rapid response stands as a testament to the depth and resilience of our enduring ties, especially in times of crisis,” the US State Department said in a statement.

“To this end, the United States will provide $1 million in immediate life-saving assistance,” it added.

According to the Office of Civil Defense, Typhoon Tino claimed at least 188 lives, with 135 individuals still missing across Southern Philippines. Nearly half a million people were forced to evacuate and are now staying in temporary shelters. In Cebu, 139 people lost their lives, most of them due to flash floods caused by the storm.

Following the extensive damage, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. declared a state of national emergency on Thursday.

“The United States is committed to supporting Philippine-led efforts, working together to save lives, alleviate suffering, and help communities recover from these disasters,” the State Department said.
