Married couple Slater Young and Kryz Uy caught attention online after they were allegedly spotted at the airport amid the issues.
Is the Monterrazas project truly sustainable? This high-end project is spearheaded by Slater Young and is built along the slopes of a mountain. It has a design inspired by the Banaue Rice Terraces, but despite the modern vision of the project, many raised concerns as to how it would impact the environment since this is being built in a mountain.
Monterrazas was criticized before due to the environmental problems that may occur and recently, the controversy was ignited anew after Typhoon Tino triggered the worst flooding in Cebu.
Many people blamed Monterrazas as a big contributing factor to the severe flooding, since building this required widespread cutting of trees and literally deforming a mountain to achieve the vision.
Amid the renewed buzz about the project, the DENR released a statement and vowed to investigate it again. The agency will accordingly launch a multistakeholder joint inspection, investigation, and assessment team to determine fault and violation, and won’t hesitate to “enforce corrective actions, including suspension, penalties, or other legal remedies as provided by law” when proven there’s a violation.
While the people in Cebu are still reeling from the aftermath, photos of Slater with his wife, Kryz Uy, at the airport, went viral online. No other detail was given regarding their destination and purpose of travel, but people online were enraged.
Assumptions and speculations were made, with some even accusing them of escaping the noise. Others were chiding how they can easily just walk away and turn their back while Cebu is still suffering, using the millions he probably earned from his project.
