86 Quake-Affected Families in Davao Oriental Finally Return Home After Days of Staying in Evacuation Centers

86 families affected by powerful earthquakes in Tarragona, Davao Oriental have finally returned to their homes after days of staying in evacuation centers. 

The quake-affected families were temporarily sheltered at the Plaza de Tarragona Evacuation Center and the Annex 1 Tent City, where they received care and support while recovering from the disaster. 

On Wednesday (October 22, 2025), the send-off activity was led by the DSWD Field Office 11 together with the local government of Tarragona under Mayor Art Benjie Bulaong. The event marked the start of their journey back home and their gradual recovery from the damages caused by the earthquakes.

As part of the continuous assistance, the families received food packs, ready-to-eat meals, kitchen supplies, sleeping kits, and family kits from DSWD 11. These items aim to help them restart their daily routines as they settle back in their communities. 

The Office of Civil Defense also provided shelter repair kits to support families whose homes were damaged. In addition, the Department of Health distributed hygiene kits to ensure proper health and cleanliness during this transition. 

Based on the latest report, 37 families lost their homes completely, while 49 families suffered partial damage to their houses. Despite the challenges, many expressed relief and gratitude for the help they received.

Meanwhile, DSWD 11 continues to distribute assistance and social services to families who still remain in evacuation centers. The agency assured that everyone will be supported throughout the recovery process and that no one will be left behind.

Community members hope to rebuild stronger homes and continue supporting one another as they move forward from this difficult experience.
