Authorities Rescue 2 Foreign Students After Getting Lost on Mt. Manabu in Batangas

Authorities successfully rescued two foreign students who got lost while descending Mt. Manabu in Barangay Sta. Cruz, Sto. Tomas City, Batangas.

Mt. Manabu, part of the Malarayat Mountain Range, is a popular hiking destination located at the boundary of Lipa City, Sto. Tomas City, and nearby towns in Batangas and Laguna. While the trail is generally beginner-friendly, hikers are reminded to be cautious, follow proper safety measures, and avoid trekking without a guide, especially those unfamiliar with the area.

On Saturday afternoon, October 18, 2025, the Sto. Tomas City Police received a 911 call around 4:30 p.m. reporting that two foreign students were missing after their hike. Police officers quickly coordinated with barangay officials and local volunteers to launch a search and rescue operation.
