President Bongbong Marcos returned to quake-hit Cebu and expressed satisfaction over the relief efforts of the government and the private sector.
The 6.9 magnitude earthquake in Bogo City, Cebu, had left over 170,000 people affected. Thousands were displaced and vital infrastructure, including homes, schools, and hospitals, was damaged or destroyed. The view now consists of collapsed buildings and blocked roads. There were also continued aftershocks, and other parts of the country have also suffered from strong tremors.

Recently, President Bongbong Marcos returned to Cebu to check the situation amid the continued aftershocks. He checked and inspected several areas that were severely affected by the deadly quake.
He first visited the Bayanihan Village in San Remigio. This is an interagency project that provided temporary shelters for the affected families. He went to the child and women-friendly spaces meant for resting and psychosocial activities.
After this, he also inspected the Cebu Provincial Hospital and the Tent City in Bogo City.
“I’m happy to report na meron nang — lahat, everybody na nasiraan ng bahay ay meron nang tinitirahan kahit na temporary lang muna,” he said before the media in Bogo City, and added that tents will be replaced by stronger modular shelters for the quake victims.
“Maganda naman ang response. Siguro hindi naman tayo mapapahiya sa tao na sabi natin eh basta’t may pangangailangan, nandiyan ang pamahalaan,” Marcos stated, lauding the recovery efforts in Cebu.
He relayed that cash assistance and construction materials had already been given, and promised that as the people recover from the tragedy, the government will not stop extending help.
President Marcos also thanked the first responders, volunteers from gov’t and private groups for helping the victims.
