CCTV Captured Magnitude 6.0 Earthquake in Surigao del Norte
A concerned netizen shared CCTV footage showing the moment a magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck Surigao del Norte.
On Friday morning (October 17, 2025), a strong magnitude 6.0 earthquake shook the town of General Luna in Surigao del Norte, startling residents and causing temporary panic across Siargao Island.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported that the tremor occurred around 7:03 a.m., about 13 kilometers from General Luna, with a depth of 28 kilometers.

The quake, which was first recorded at magnitude 6.2 before being adjusted to 6.0, was tectonic in origin. PHIVOLCS warned that aftershocks and minor damage were likely to follow the strong shaking.
Recently, a concerned netizen, Mae-Ann Antolin Minglana, shared CCTV footage capturing the exact moment the ground trembled in Libertad, General Luna. The video showed objects shaking and people rushing to safety as the earthquake struck without warning.
The post quickly went viral on social media, gaining widespread attention online as many expressed concerns for the safety of residents.
According to Mae-Ann, she and her family were safe but continued to feel several aftershocks after the main quake. Locals described the shaking as one of the strongest they had experienced in recent years.
Authorities immediately conducted safety inspections in affected areas to check for possible structural damage. Residents were advised to remain alert and stay away from weak structures in case of further tremors.
Despite the fear and uncertainty, locals expressed relief that no major injuries were reported.
